Be Still

Believe it or not, this canvas started out as a contrast of dark purple, blue and grays all mixed so heavily that you could see the brush strokes. I left it like that for about a month. I started painting again on this piece with the idea that a forest is what came to mind, a forest representing the uncertainty of the future. I added Everest green and black to the canvas and it quickly came to me that this was not a forest piece. I begin to think of my favorite story in the bible; Jesus calms the storm. If you had not read this story, it goes to show that even in the most dangerous of storm where it looks like death is before your eyes, the Lord can calm all the waves and bring peace again.

In all of my pieces, I generally use silver and gold to reflect off the light. These colors represent positiveness, strength and peace among the dark. I continued to add silver and black to this piece to depict the choice of focus that we all have; do we look at the bad or search for the good? The Cross shows to be distressed but visible among the entire piece, most certainly when the light hits it, but still shows through In the dark.

The colors represent our future of the unknown. They represent how sometimes we can be in the worst storm of our lives, yet still have beautiful moments and hope to get us through. The Cross shows that in all of the color chaos we face daily, always remember there is something more powerful to catch your eye. There is always a reminder to Be Still, even when it feels as if the storm is too much to handle.
