Bearing the Wind

This painting is a little different from the previous ones because rather than it being seen through music, I created it based on experiences.  I asked my client if he had a song in mind that he wanted to me to create his canvas too. He suggested that I pick something other than a song that he and I have in common. The first thing that came to my mind for both us having a common interest is motorcycle riding. We both love that open ride feeling, racing against the wind out in the open road.  It’s the feeling as if you are flying.  I felt like since I started riding, there is a new realization to how small you are on the road compared to everything else around you.  My goal for this piece was to capture the adrenaline and freedom you feel while on a bike.

I started with a soft blue background as if to represent a day of clear skies; a day perfect for riding. I then used blue grey and grey to strike the canvas, creating an uneven yet consistent environment around you. I created this canvas to be as if you are looking down over it. The silver imperfect streak down the center symbolizes as the roads we take, sometimes uncertain and uneven. The silver coming out of the “road” in the middle symbolizes as the wind riders feel as well as the freedom of being on the open road around you. I added additional silver streaks to symbolize the freedom of being on the open road also representing the options that every rider has.
